Caledonia Man Cited for Animal Neglect

According to a report by the Caledonia Police Department, James Briley, 60, of Caledonia, was cited for having his Shihtzu caged with no water or food in 80-degree heat. The dog was found lying in its own feces and urine.  When police found the dog at 3:17 p.m., witnesses told police the dog had been in the cage since 7:30 a.m.

Police contacted officials with Country Side Humane Society, who said Briley had already been warned about the dog’s care.

The Humane Society took the dog and police left a note for Briley to call him, but he never did. The neighbor told police that Briley accused them of taking his dog and calling the police. While the police talked with Briley’s neighbors, Briley came home. He told them the conditions were fine, and that he usually keeps the dog in the house. Briley told police the dog defecates in the house and he did not want that happening.
