John Janick, 40, of Caledonia died in a crash early Thursday morning in South Milwaukee, according to South Milwaukee police.
Police tried to stop Janick for speeding at 1:51 a.m. Thursday morning before the crash. Janick's vehicle was going 25 mph over the street's 25 mph speed limit, police said.
The officer lost sight of the speeding vehicle but found it crashed 11 blocks away. The officer was not actively pursuing the vehicle at the time of the crash, police said.
Janick’s vehicle hit a tree and started on fire, igniting a nearby house in the 700 block of Edgewood in South Milwaukee. No one in the home was injured.
The crash remains under investigation, police said.
According to neighbors who spoke to Fox6, the street has had other crashes due to the sudden curve in the road.
I only knew Mr. Janick for a short time as my dispatcher at D.T.S. He was a likeable guy and very good at his job. His passing leaves a void regardless of the circumstance. R.I.P. sir.
