A 42-year-old Racine contactor is accused of taking money from a Caledonia woman and never performing work he promised.
Michael L. Ottelien was charged in Racine County Circuit Court Thursday with one count of theft by false representation If convicted, he faces up to 1½ years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint:
A woman contacted the Caledonia Police Department after she hired Otterlien’s company, Ottelien Decorating and Remodeling LLC, to put a new roof on her home and the work was never performed. She said she gave Ottelien a $4,500 down payment in June and he made excuses as to why he never started the job.
Ottelien then told the woman the shingles would be delivered to the home on Sept. 11 and work would begin the next day. The materials never came and Ottelien stopped answering phone calls from the victim.
He will make his initial appearance in court Dec. 20.
