Couple Crashes Their Car While Trying To Avoid Hitting A Deer

A Mount Pleasant couple swerved to miss hitting a deer and ended up rolling the car they were in early Sunday morning on State Highway 38 and Five Mile Road.

A couple was injured in a one-car crash after they swerved to miss a deer and the car they were in rolled into a field at 12:47 a.m. Sunday on State Highway 38 and Five Mile Road.

The driver, Jared Lapotko, of Mount Pleasant, and a woman, who was in the passenger seat, were in the car when it overturned in the front yard of a residence. The car came to rest on its passenger side against a tree. Both were bleeding and were shaken up from the crash, according to a report by the Caledonia Police Department.

The man told police he was driving 65 mph when a deer came in front of him. The woman told police she wasn’t sure how fast they were going because she was putting her seatbelt on.

Sgt. Brian Wall said the crash is still being investigated.
