Don't Want Drama From The Police? Then You Probably Shouldn't Do This

A Raymond man flees from the scene of a car crash and then eludes police, but you'll never guess why he did it.

A 27-year-old Raymond man was arrested for suspicion of drunk driving, and fleeing and eluding police officers at 2:05 a.m. Friday on Northwestern Avenue and County Trunk Highway V.

According to a report by the Caledonia Police Department, officers were trying to locate a suspect who had fled the scene of a truck crash on Interstate 94. Officers were parked in the 3900 block of Highway V when the police saw a speeding truck traveling about 90 mph weaving and operating left of center.

When the officers started to pursue the driver of the truck, and the truck blew through stop signs at Highway K at Highway V, and at the West Frontage Road at Golf Road. Traveling north on the West Frontage Road, the driver turned west on West Three Mile Road, braked and went into a driveway. Eventually the driver went down a dirt road and into a field.

The officer lost sight of the truck and couldn’t see the truck or any tracks. But then he found the car with the man standing outside the truck, and he had his hands raised. At gunpoint, the officer told the man to lie on the ground. When police asked him if he had been drinking and if so, how much? The man said, “Yeah, too much.”

When police asked why he kept driving, the man said, “Because you kept coming” and that he had “court for child support coming up and did not need this drama.”
