Afternoon Fire Results in Total Loss of Barn on Nicholson Road

According to the Caledonia Fire Department, a fire engulfed a barn and spread to nearby buildings and a field Tuesday afternoon.

An explosion that caused a barn to go up in flames resulted in the total loss of the barn. Flames also spread to a nearby field, but that fire was contained and extinguished less than an hour after fire fighters arrived on scene.

The Caledonia Fire Department responded to a call about afire in a barn and adjacent buildings in the 8700 block of Nicholson Road. Members of the Oak Creek Fire Department were called in to assist with the fire in the field across the street. Officials say the fire was reported at 3:27 Tuesday afternoon, and produced two fire locations; a barn and side buildings.

By 4:10 pm, the barn was a total loss, but the nearby field was under control and nearly extinguished. Nicholson Road remains closed to through traffic.

A Caledonia fire fighter was treated at the scene in a department medical unit, but was not transported to the hospital. There were no other injuries reported.

While there have been reports that an explosion may have triggered the fire, Caledonia fire officials are not confirming whether or not that's the case. The incident remains under investigation.
