**Updated 10:45 a.m. July 30

Caledonia firefighters were called at 7:47 p.m. Monday to a house fire in the 5600 block of Highway 31.

Caledonia police Lt. Gary Larsen said the homeowners safely exited the building before calling 911.

"(It) started in a bedroom on the north side of the house. The estimated damage to the home is $40,000," he said.

According to Caledonia resident Amber Kish, Highway 31 was shut down between 4- and 5-Mile roads for a couple of hours.

Beth David, founder of Racine Uncovered, was listening to the scanner, and she reported that 20 minutes after the call for CAFD went out, the Racine Fire Bells were called to the scene as well.

At the 30-minute mark, the fire was broadcast as under control, she posted, and also said that WE Energies was on scene.

Larsen confirmed that CAFD had the fire extinguished in about 30 minutes. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
