For Non-Emergency Police Calls, There's a New Telephone Number

Village flips the switch to joint dispatch, and that means a few changes took place.

People needing the police for a non-emergency will need to remember to call the new phone number.

For emergencies call 911, nothing has changed.

Toby Schey, Police Chief for the Caledonia Police Department, said the 911 phone number will automatically transfer a 911 call made in Caledonia to the Racine County Joint Dispatch Center.

But for non-emergency calls, a few changes will take place.

The Village of Caledonia changed over to the Racine County Joint Dispatch service on March 1. Now residents will need to use the Racine County Communication line, 886-2300 for non-emergency calls.

If someone in Caledonia wants to report something as stolen or they do not want to make an emergency call for police service, they now need to use the 886-2300 phone number.

Additionally, the front office, which handles records requests, court business and access to personnel, will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, and Wednesday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

However, a phone is available in the lobby for residents to contact the Racine Communications Center directly so that a squad can be dispatched over to Caledonia.

The change in office hours also means that if someone want to use the oil collection facility to dump their used oil, they will need to do that during business hours to have access to the key.

The Village of Mt. Pleasant and Sturtevant will not be transferring over to joint dispatch until June. They will continue to use their own non-emergency phone numbers until then, not the number to the Racine County Communication line. The City of Racine’s Police Department won’t be transitioning until Oct. 1.
