Neighbors On Edge Over Recent Home Invasions

Neighbors living near the area of several reported home invasions have reported two suspicious incidents in the Kremer subdivision. Police say they aren't related.

A number of residents are on edge after several home invasions and attempted burglaries were reported in the area between 3 and 4-½ Mile Roads, and east of Douglas Avenue and into the Wind Point area last week.

Since then, no other related incidents have been reported, said Chief Toby Schey.

"We haven't had anymore since the news of this broke," Schey said. "We don't know if these guys are just laying low or if the Racine PD just made some arrests on the north side, so we don't know if they were arrested or not."

However, two unrelated incidents have been reported in the Kremer subdivision.

According to a report by the Caledonia Police Department, a person was trying to break into the back door of a residence in the 4700 block of Elizabeth Street at 12:14 a.m. Saturday.

The woman told police she was lying on the couch in her living room when she heard a scratching sound from the screen of one of her windows. When she looked outside she didn’t see anything and lay back down on the couch. Minutes later she heard the same noise, but this time she looked outside and saw a man standing next to the screen window. Screaming, she ran upstairs to tell one of the residents sleeping inside the house.

When police arrived on scene, the suspicious person was gone and the woman couldn’t give a description of the man. They did see a dark colored vehicle turn east on to Wind Dale Drive from Elizabeth and two people exit the car.

When officers confronted the driver, the man said he was just dropping off a friend. Police found open cans of alcohol so the driver was cited. Police determined they weren’t involved with the attempted burglary, and they were released from the scene.

A resident also reported a suspicious person came to her door asking if a car behind her house was for sale at about 6:44 p.m. Thursday in the 1800 block of Kremer Avenue.

The resident told police the man was a black male, about six-foot one-inch tall, and weighed 300 to 350 pounds. The man was last seen wearing black sweatpants and did not appear to have shaved for several days.

Lt. Gary Larsen said the incident was un-related because the male they chased on Ruby Avenue didn’t match the description the woman gave. That car was described as a 1990s dark-colored car.

The woman told police she wanted to report the incident because of reports of several break-ins in the area and “she believed the man may have been casing her residence” since her husband had just left about five to 10 minutes before they came to the house.
