Gun Instructor Accidentally Shoots Himself In The Leg

The following information was supplied by the Caledonia Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A man, who was training employees of the Zion Power Plant how to shoot semi-automatic guns, ended shooting himself in the thigh Thursday, Dec. 8 at , 4900 6 Mile Rd, Racine.

A detective with the said the incident likely wasn’t the trainer’s fault because the group had been having problems with the new guns and the ammunition they were using at the time, according to a report by the Caledonia Police Department.

Arrangements had been made by an employee of the security company contracted by the Zion Power Plant to bring 30 employees to the facility to “get trained in what he described as a transition training,” which means they were going from using a revolver to semi-automatic guns. The trainer who was shot didn't immediately report the incident to police because the man thought he could treat the wound himself.

The man who brought the group to Shooter's called an employee to apologize for what happened at the range. Initially, the employee thought the man was talking about something else, but then realized he was talking about one of the trainers, who had accidentally shot himself as he was putting the gun in the holster. The trainer told police that the wound “was only a graze.”

Police later learned the bullet went through his thigh. He was treated at Aurora Hospital in Kenosha.
