High Winds And Storm Wreak Havoc In The Area

Semis flipped over, trees were brought down, and transformers blew.

A number of customers throughout eastern Racine County are without power after winds ripped through the area last night, according to We Energies.

In Caledonia, power lines were down on Nicholson Road between Four Mile and Five Mile Roads. According to officials with the Caledonia Police Department, a utility pole started on fire at Kennedy Drive and North Green Bay Road.

In Mt. Pleasant, a tree crashed down onto a car on 97th Street just north of Highway 11. Dispatchers took numerous reports of transformers that had blown or were sparking.

High winds also caused a mess out on the Interstate as two semis flipped over at about the same time on Interstate 94 at Highway 11, and at Highway K Wednesday night, June 8. Deputies with the Racine County Sheriff's Department shut down the Interstate at about 9:30 p.m. for about five and a half hours. No serious injuries were reported. The stormy weather will continue as the National Weather Service still has the area under a hazardous weather watch.
