House Fire Likely Caused by Malfunctioning Chimney System

No one injured, but estimated damage to the house estimated at $15,000.

No one was injured during a house fire, but a faulty chimney system may be to blame for the blaze.

The fire started at 12:22 am Tuesday at 8549 County Trunk Highway V, said officials with the Caledonia Fire Department.

When firefighters arrived from the Caledonia and South Shore fire departments, fire and smoke billowed from the attic eaves. Within 35 minutes firefighters had the fire under control. However, firefighters cleaned up and conducted a fire investigation until 2:44 a.m.

Officials believe the fire was accidental and a problem with a malfunctioning chimney system may have caused the fire.

Damage to the home is estimated at $15,000 for the structure and $5,000 for contents.

Caledonia firefighters also assisted area fire departments this week.

  • On February 25, the Caledonia Command vehicle Battalion 11 and Ladder Truck Quint 10 responded to the extra alarm fire at 2121 Ole Davidson Road in Mt. Pleasant.
  • On March 4, Caledonia Ambulance Med 11 and Engine 12 responded to assist at the extra alarm barn fire at 3600 North Raynor Avenue in Wind Lake. The units remained on scene at both of these fires for several hours until they were placed under control.
