Labrador at Large Attacks Horse, Dog Owner Cited

A horse dumped its rider because it was attacked by a black Labrador Retriever. The owner of the dog was cited by the dog being at large.

The owner of a black Labrador Retriever was issued citations Saturday after police say the dog charged a horse who then dumped its rider.

Police say two residents were riding their horses Saturday on the trail near the 7100 block of 7-Mile Road when a black Lab “ran straight at (one of the) horses and attacked the horse’s legs.”

The horse reportedly bucked off its rider, and both witnesses told police they saw a man outside the residence call the dog, put the animal inside the house and then take off in a vehicle, police reports read.

When officers visited the man’s residence, he denied his dog being off property, but because he had a prior dog-at-large warning, the man was issued another citation.

Officers also visited the boarding facility where the horses were kept to check on the animal attacked by the dog. While the horse didn’t suffer any obvious bite marks, police say they observed noticeable swelling on one of the horse’s rear legs.

The rider who was bucked off did not suffer any fractures, but did report to officers that they were in a lot of pain from the incident.
