A 33-year-old Caledonia man is accused of giving a fake name to a Racine police officer in order to try and avoid arrest for outstanding warrants early Tuesday.

At 1:38 a.m. Tuesday, a Racine police officer pulled over a car for suspended registration operated by someone with a suspended drivers license on Highway 32 near 3 Mile Road. During the traffic stop, Phillips was sitting in the passenger seat and tried to get out, but his door was shut by an officer who told him to stay in the car.

Phillips said his name was Anthony T. Walker, but when officers looked up the name they discovered it was an alias used by Phillips, who had arrest warrants pending against him. Phillips denied his identity, saying his cousin was Phillips and he was using his name to avoid arrest.

The officer looked up both Phillips and Walker in his database and found a picture of the same man for both names. Phillips again denied his real identity. The driver eventually confirmed Phillips was indeed the person inside the car.

Phillips is currently being held in Racine County Jail on $300 bond while awaiting trial. Β
