Man Accused of Passing a Forged Check

A Milwaukee man is charged with a felony after police say he passed a forged check at a Caledonia bank.

A 44-year-old Milwaukee man is accused of passing a forged paycheck at a Caledonia Johnson Bank location.

Alfred E. Smith was charged in Racine County Circuit Court Wednesday with one count of uttering a forgery. If convicted, he faces up to three years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

On Sept. 11, Caledonia police officers were called to Johnson Bank after Smith came in and cashed a check for $1,962. The check was drawn from an account that had other fraudulent withdrawals at Johnson Bank locations and Smith used his driver’s license as ID during the transaction.

Smith is currently being held in Racine County Jail on $250 bond while awaiting trial.
