Man Almost Didn't Stop For Caledonia Cops, Almost

Joshua Java Berry, 20, of Florida, was caught speeding and created some traffic mayhem, but Caledonia Police quickly found out he had a criminal history.

A man, who had a bit of a speeding problem, failed to stop for officers with the Caledonia Police Department.

After running a background check on the driver, the officers learned why.

Joshua Java Berry, 20, of Florida, was cited for speeding 21 mph over the speed limit, reckless driving, passing in a no passing zone and improperly stopping at 4:01 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13 on Seven Mile Road at State Highway 38.

According to a report by the , Berry was seen speeding 61 mph in the 45 mph zone. When an officer tried to conduct a traffic stop, Berry allegedly sped up and failed to stop for a stop sign on Seven Mile Road and County Trunk Highway V. Barry also drove his car past two other cars in a no passing zone, then stopped suddenly in the southbound lane.

After conducting a felony traffic stop, officers learned he and the passenger in his car had a criminal history of weapons violations, drug convictions and resisting arrest, but Barry didn’t have any current warrants. “However, the passenger was on probation for drugs,” according to the report.

Police called for help from the Franklin Police Department to use their K-9 unit. While the dog did hit on drugs being in the car, police only found “trace amounts of marijuana in the carpet fibers.”

Barry was given the citations, and both he and the passenger were allowed to leave the scene.
