Man Listed In Critical Condition After Rollover ATV Crash

A 51-year-old Caledonia man, who suffered from injuries to his face, was taken by Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee after he crashed his ATV at 10:59 p.m. on Thursday.

A 51-year-old Caledonia man -- who suffered injuries to his face, ribs and shoulders -- was taken by Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee after he crashed his ATV at 10:59 p.m. on Thursday.

William Warzala was listed in critical condition on Monday, according to officials with Froedtert Hospital. However, a family member said Monday night that his condition has improved.

Kyle Warzala, William's son, said the crash happened in the 6700 block of Highway 38.

"The four-wheeler flipped over and I thought he was down in the woods," Kyle said. "... When I got back up to the road, I heard the sirens from the ambulance and he was on a stretcher."

William was initially taken to All Saints-Wheaton Franciscan Hospital in Racine. Tests had determined that William's shoulder had been shattered and that his left lung had deflated. William was then taken to Froedtert Hospital by Flight for Life.

"The handle bars had also broken his ribs," Kyle said, adding that William is now in a regular room and is doing physical therapy. "He recognizes me and my family, he can move his legs. He's in a lot of pain, but he's a tough guy."

William was cited for suspicion of drunk driving, operating an ATV on the highway, careless operation, and operating an ATV without a valid registration, according to a report by the Caledonia Police Department.

William told police that he had been drinking alcohol before he was driving the ATV.
