Man Injured In One-Car Crash That Happened In Caledonia

The following information was supplied by the Caledonia Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A 54-year-old Caledonia suffered injuries to his head, chest and shoulders after he crashed the car he was driving into a tree at the dead end of Coachlight Drive at 11:35 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011.

Robin L. Robbins, 54, of Racine, was arrested for suspicion of drunk driving and failing to maintain control over his tan Ford Explorer, according to a report by the Caledonia Police Department.

A neighbor, who lives in the area, told police he heard a vehicle racing past his house and then head a loud crash. The only person inside the explorer, Robbins appeared intoxicated when he spoke to the neighbor.

While Robbins told police he wasn’t injured and refused to be treated for the cut he had above his right eye, police told rescue to come to the scene to treat him.

Confused and disoriented, Robbins to the police “nothing” happened “I’m parked in my garage.”

Robbins admitted that he had been drinking “a lot” and when he got out of the car he fell to the ground, according to police. When they asked him what happened, Robbins said he was OK and asked “why what happened.”

The police officer responded: “I told Robbins that he crashed his vehicle and he then looked up realizing what happened. He asked if he hurt anyone and I advised him no. He then said that he was having pain in his shoulders, chest, and head.

After Robbins was treated for his injuries and refused transport by an ambulance, officers arrested Robbins and took him to the hospital for a legal blood draw.

Potential charges with drunken driving are pending because officials with the Racine County District Attorney’s Office are waiting for the results of the legal blood draw.
