Man Overdoses On "Bath Salts" And Energy Drinks

Man was found in a driveway slumped over the wheel in his van. The term "Bath Salts" refers to a combination of two stimulants and is often thought of as a cocaine substitute, according to drugabuse.gov.

A 28-year-old man was taken to the hospital on a mental health commitment after he got high on energy drinks and "bath salts" at 9:58 p.m. Monday in the 3500 block of Twin Lane.

The term "bath salts" refers to the combination of two stimulants — MDPV and mephedrone. Sold legally online and in headshops, the drug is seen a substitute for cocaine and ecstasy, according to drugabuse.gov.

According to a report by the , officers found the man lying on the floor of his van.

A witness told police he found the van in his driveway. The man was initially in the drivers’ seat slumped over the steering wheel. The witness said the engine was off and there weren’t any keys in the ignition. He found a cell phone and called the past person who called it, which was the man’s mother.

She told the police her son has a problem with drugs, that he had just gotten out of rehab and he liked to get high on energy drinks and a substance he buys off of the Internet.

Police later learned from hospital personnel that the man had inhaled the drugs.
