Man's Home Surrounded By Police After He Threatens To Commit Suicide

According to a report by the Caledonia Police Department, the man suffers from a mental illness and had just lost his job.

With guns drawn, police surrounded a suicidal man’s home at 6:23 p.m. Friday in the 6000 block of Erie St.

According to a report by the , a woman called the police when a 51-year-old acquaintance texted her that he was going to commit suicide and that he had a loaded gun.

Minutes later, police positioned themselves around the home, just north of the old Western Publishing Company. They didn’t notice any lights on inside the house and entered the house. They found the man inside, who told them that he sent the text message and had a loaded gun that he had put the gun up to his head.

The man had been drinking and they found the loaded gun in the home, according to police.

Police took the man to the hospital on a mental health commitment. The man told police he suffered from mental health issues, that he had just recently lost his job and he was an alcoholic.
