At 2:17 p.m. a man was in the southbound lane of Middle Road and stopped while waiting to turn westbound onto Stephan Road. Suddenly, the man looked in his rear view mirror and saw Jastrebov about to rear end him in a van.

Caledonia police officers were called to the scene where a witness said she saw Jastrebov driving “strangely” and weaving while going north on Erie Street, then turn onto Four Mile Road minutes before the crash.

The officer tried to talk with Jastrebov, but there was a language barrier and he appeared intoxicated. The officer used a Russian translator on his cell phone and was eventually able to get Jastrebov’s name.

Jastrebov failed field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol level of 0.249, which is more than three times the legal limit to drive in Wisconsin.

He was previously convicted of drunken driving in 2003, 2004 and 2011. He’s currently being held in the Racine County Jail on $1,000 bail
