Officer in Squad Struck During Fire, Driver Arrested for 2nd OWI

Police say a man driving under the influence struck a Caledonia police squad with an officer inside while that officer was helping keep traffic away from the scene of a fire.

Caledonia police say one of their officers was transported to the hospital Monday night after their squad was struck by a drunk driver.

Police were called to the scene of a fire Monday night in the 5600 block of Highway 31 to help with traffic control. An officer was blocking the intersection of 5-Mile and 31 when their squad was struck by an intoxicated driver, CAPD Lt. Gary Larsen said.

The driver - later identified as Michael J. Brown, 49 - was taken into custody and transported to the Racine County Jail for operating under the influence, second offense, causing injury.

Larsen said the officer was not seriously injured and was treated and released that same evening.
