Police Investigating Series of Weekend Thefts

Caledonia police are investigating thefts reported Sunday afternoon from vehicles in parking lots.

**Updated 6:20 p.m.

Caledonia police are asking for help finding the suspects responsible for a series of thefts Sunday afternoon.

Officers say the incidents all occurred in parking lots and involved a person or persons breaking into vehicles to steal a number of items. Thefts were reported at the Racine Dog Run on Highway 38, the Eco Justice Center on Michna Rd and at the JMBA Center on Highway 31.

According to Caledonia police Lt. Gary Larsen, the crimes all happened around 3 p.m. Sunday and share the same smash-and-grab style.

"All three were smash and grabs, and purses were taken," he told Patch. "It sounds as if someone was looking for groups of parked cars and opportunities to look in numerous vehicle and take purses."

While the crimes are all similary, Larsen said they don't appear to be the product of an organized effort.

He also wants to remind residents to not keep valuables in their cars or to keep valuables like purses, wallets, and cell phones out of sight, even if the vehicles are locked.

If anyone has information about these crimes, they can call Crime Stoppers at at (262)636-9330, via email through the website www.racine.crimestoppersweb.com or by sending a text message to CRIMES (274637) and typing in RACS with your text message. Tips leading to arrest could mean a reward.
