Police Looking For Suspect In Fraud Case

An unknown man used a stolen credit card to buy a lot of booze at several area stores and the Caledonia Police are hoping the public might be able to identify the man.

An investigator with the is seeking help from the public to identify a suspect in a credit card fraud and identity theft case.

The suspect in the case allegedly used a stolen credit card to purchase over $400 in alcohol at various stores in Caledonia, according to an investigator on the case.

On Feb. 9, a teacher at Gifford Elementary said she realized she didn’t have her Visa card with her and that she left the card on her desk at school.

When she called to cancel the card, the credit card company told her the card had been used seven times.

Melissa Stardy, the investigator working on the case, said the teacher learned the card had been used seven times on Feb. 10, 2012, and three times on Feb. 11 before 10 a.m. at Pick’n Save, 2210 Rapids Drive; Nagra Pump and Pantry, 1826 Douglas Ave; One Stop Food And Liquor, 1711 North Main Street in Racine; and the Citgo gas station, 1720 Douglas Avenue.

“One Stop Food and Liquor says he’s a regular in the store,” Stardy said. “This guy goes in there a lot, but they don’t have his name and they said he rides a bicycle.”

The man is described as a white male, age 25 to 35-years-old, five-foot eight-inches to five-foot ten-inches tall, and 170 to 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white puffy jacket and wore glasses while in one of the stores.

"He wore a pretty distinctive looking jacket and I'm sure someone has seen this guy," Stardy said.
