Police: Man Admits He’s Drunk, ‘It’s Been a Rough Night’

A man admits he was drinking in his vehicle and that he blew a red light even though he saw a police car at the light.

Caledonia police say a man who ran a red light despite seeing a fully marked CAPD squad car at the intersection admitted he shouldn’t have done it and that he was drunk.

An officer was at the intersection of 7-Mile Road and Highway 32 at 2:07 a.m. July 24 when he observed a white Chevy Malibu blow through the red light, turn left and continue south on 32.

After police pulled the driver over and asked him if he knew the reason for the traffic stop, the man reportedly told them he saw the officer sitting there and he knew he should have stopped.

“But I said ‘screw it’ and went anyway,” he said.

More, he admitted he was driving under the influence.

“I’m drunk right now,” he told police. “I’m just gonna be completely honest. It’s been a rough night.”

Police reports say the man was not wearing shoes or socks during the traffic stop and his shorts were wet. He told police he may have vomited on himself while driving and that he’d only stopped drinking when he was pulled over.

The man failed field sobriety tests and blew a .18 when officers used the breathalyzer unit. During questioning, he admitted he was drunk and that he was working on a gallon bottle of vodka when police pulled him over.

He was released to a sober and responsible party, but officers had his car towed because he repeatedly said he was going back to get it.

Officers issued citations with a court date. We will update this story after the man appears before the court commissioner.
