Police: Mom Used Heroin with Child at Home

Caledonia police say Shawna Moore was having a bad week so she bought some heroin to make herself feel better.

Caledonia police say a 24-year-old woman used heroin in her bathroom because she was depressed. Officers also say she had a two-year-old at home with her so now she's also charged with neglect.

Shawna Moore, a former resident of Pleasant Prairie, was charged Tuesday in Racine County Circuit Court with a single felony count of narcotic drug possession and one count each of misdemeanor child neglect and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the criminal complaint, Caledonia police were called at 5:45 p.m. Monday to a home in the 4100 block of Walsh Road. When officers arrived, a witness told them Moore was passed out in the upstairs bathroom.

Police say they went upstairs and found Moore on the floor. There was also a syringe, a water bottle and a spoon on the bathroom counter. Moore was given Narcan while a Caledonia Fire rescue crew transported her to Wheaton Franciscan St. Mary's.

At the hospital, officers were able to speak to Moore. She admitted to having a rough week so she drove to Waukegan, IL, to buy $20 in heroin to make herself feel better, the complaint reads.

What she neglected to tell police was that she has a two-year-old child who lives with her. Police say the witness who called 911 said they were not in a position to care for the child so Racine County Human Services was called to take the child from the home.

Moore was assigned a $1,000 signature bond Tuesday with the conditions that she be on GPS monitoring and not have contact with her child. Her preliminary hearing is Aug. 21, according to online court records.

Online inmate locator from the Racine County Jail indicate Moore was still in jail Tuesday evening.
