The teenage suspect is in custody after Racine police say he fled from them in the 1400 block of Kentucky Street.

Mount Pleasant Police have a 17-year-old boy in custody for a suspected burglary Thursday afternoon on the south side of the village.

The original burglary call came in at 2:06 p.m. Thursday. When officers arrived at the 3900 block of Lakeview, they found a resident who fled outside after discovering an intruder had broken into the house.

Sgt. Eric Relich told Patch the resident described the suspect as a white male wearing a black jacket, approximately 20 years old with reddish-blond short hair. Officers searched the area around the home and found what turned out to be a personal item of the suspect.

"The homeowner was home when the intruder gained entry to the residence," Relich said. "The suspect did not take any property from the residence because he got scared off."

According to a written release sent to media Thursday evening, Racine police took Zachary T. Cook into custody about 5 p.m. after they answered a call for a suspicious person in the 1400 block of Kentucky Street.

A Mount Pleasant officer monitored the call with the Racine Police Department and realized the description of the Kentucky Street suspect matched that from the Lakeview incident. RPD apprehended Cook after a short foot chase and turned him over to MPPD for processing for the alleged Lakeview burglary.

Cook is being held at the Racine County Jail; he could face charges of felony burglary.
