Police Take Suicidal Man into Custody

Man said he lost his job, his wife, his house, and his dog.

A 56-year-old Caledonia man ran into St. Rita’s Church, 4423 Douglas Ave., Saturday night, made suicidal statements and then left on foot.

At 6:06 p.m., officers with the Caledonia Police Department found the man near the Vulcan quarry, according to a police report.

Police noted the man had been drinking and asked him if he was OK. The man said he was fine and that some of his roommates had been fighting, so he went for a walk.

While telling the police what had happened, the man started to cry and he told them he had lost his wife, his job, his home and his dog.

Police took the man into custody on a mental health commitment. While at the hospital, the man told police he had three broken ribs and if he wouldn’t have had that he would have climbed the fence and jumped.
