Racine District Attorney Charges Woman for Allegedly Driving High

Police said she had her two children in the car.

A Kenosha woman is accused of driving under the influence of prescription medication with her two children sleeping in the car.

According to police, they received a report of someone stopped at a green light at 1:37 a.m. Sunday on Highway 32 and Six Mile Road.

The Racine County District Attorney’s Office charged Sherri L. Talbert, 27, of Kenosha, with possession of a non-controlled substance, possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, and one count of driving under the influence.

If Talbert is convicted of all charges, she faces up to 10 years six months in prison and/or fines up to $11,600.

According to police, Talbert appeared confused and didn’t know where she was. She said she was just trying to get home to Kenosha, but she slurred her speech and police suspected she was under the influence of drugs. Talbert told police she was taking several medications for depression and anxiety, and she hadn’t slept in a long time. Police gave her a field sobriety test and she failed it. However, a preliminary blood test showed she hadn’t been drinking.

One of the officers knew Talbert was addicted to drugs and she was not prescribed any medications. She was arrested for being under the influence. When police took her to get a mandatory blood draw, she had a bottle Xanax, which had been prescribed to another person, in her underwear.

While being interviewed by police, Talbert told police a man in Milwaukee gave her 100 Xanax pills to take to Kenosha, which she was supposed to take to a person’s house in Kenosha. While being taken to jail, police found another bottle of pills on her.

Police called Talbert’s mother who told them her daughter had been missing with the children since 11 p.m. Saturday. She had been on Methadone, but had recently been taken off of them because she had tested positive for having other drugs in her system.
