Racine Man Arrested For Drunk Driving In Caledonia

A driver involved in a two-car crash was arrested under suspicion of drunk driving (third offense) at 7:27 p.m. Wednesday, May 11.
Caledonia Police arrested Michael Nelson, 39, of Racine. Nelson was driving a blue pickup truck eastbound on Four Mile Road just west of the railroad tracks near Douglas Avenue when he rear-ended a SUV that was also traveling eastbound.
A man driving the SUV was transported to an area hospital for neck pain.

According to a report by the Caledonia Police Department, the driver of the SUV stopped for a train when Nelson crashed into the SUV. Officers suspected Nelson of drinking alcohol and gave him a field sobriety test, which he failed. Police took Nelson to get a mandatory blood draw, but his blood-alcohol level has not been confirmed. Formal charges have not been issued and are pending until the Racine County District Attorney’s office receives the results.
