Racine Woman Facing Charges After Pills Are Found in Her Car

A 34-year-old Racine woman is facing multiple charges after she was caught allegedly driving drunk with pills in her car in Caledonia Friday morning.

Angie L. Braun was charged in Racine County Circuit Court Friday with one count of second offense operating while intoxicated, one count of operating a motor vehicle after revocation of her license and two counts of possession of a controlled substance. If convicted, she faces up to 25 months in prison and $9,100 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

At 3:32 a.m. Friday, a Caledonia police officer was travelling southbound on Nicholson Road when he spotted Braun driving northbound and doing 47 miles per hour in a 35 miles per hour speed zone. He turned around and pulled her car over, where he immediately noticed the wrong license plate was on the car and a beer bottle was laying on the back seat.

Braun had no driver’s license, proof of insurance or reasoning for speeding. She said she had just bought the car and it was unregistered and claimed to be heading home to Racine despite driving in the opposite direction of the city.

The officer noticed Braun smelled of alcohol and she told him she had “a little bit” to drink before driving.

He then asked Braun to perform field sobriety tests, but she refused, saying if he wanted to arrest her for drunk driving to just do so. The officer did arrest her and searched her car where he found a pill bottle with Adderall and Xanax inside.

Braun was previously convicted of OWI in 2009. She’s currently being held in Racine County Jail on a $1,000 signature bond.
