Teen Cuts Off Monitoring Bracelet During Argument

Suspect, 17, faces six years in prison after he gets into an argument with his mom, then cuts off the bracelet and runs to a nearby park to cool down.

Anthony J. Smith was charged in Racine County Circuit Court Wednesday with one count of felony bail jumping. If convicted, he faces up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

At 7:47 p.m. Tuesday, Caledonia police officers were called to a residence in the 3100 block of Indian Trail after Smith and his mother got into an argument. She told police he was upset about her ex-husband, so Smith got a knife out of the kitchen, cut off the bracelet and ran out the door.

While the officer was talking with the woman, Smith came walking towards the home on Indian Trail from . He told the officer he got into an argument with his mother, then ran into the park to cool off and watched some people play softball.

He’s currently being held in Racine County Jail on $500 bond while awaiting trial.
