Trail Of Trash Made Driver's House Easy To Find

The man told police he fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into mailboxes and a lot of rubbish.

If this man hadn't called police on his own, officers would have had no trouble tracking him down.

The 47-year-old Caledonia man told police he fell asleep at the wheel about 1:45 a.m. Jan. 3, and struck several mailboxes in the 7300 and 7400 blocks of Douglas Avenue.

According to a report by the Caledonia Police, the man left the scene after he struck the mailboxes with the truck he was driving, but he didn’t realize how much damage he had done to his truck.

Once he realized what had happened, he called the police and told them he had fallen asleep while driving home. What he didn’t realize was that the residents had also put their trash out the trash the night before and a trail of trash had been strewn down the path behind him as he was driving his truck to his residence.

The man was apologetic and told police he would pay for the damage to the mailboxes.
