Two Left Hooks Don't Make It Right

Woman gets between two guys trying to fight, she ends up decking one guy and she gets decked back. He's got a black eye and she's got a very sore jaw. Neither were charged though.

A fight happened at the Corner Connection, 6961 Douglas Ave., at 11:40 p.m. Friday between a man and a woman, but neither will face charges.

Tommy Lein, 48, of Caledonia, allegedly punched Amy Mommaerts in the face, but Lein told police Mommaerts punched him first.

Mommaerts told police that the person she was with, Trad Schulechterman, had gotten into a fight with Lein recently. Lein approached the two in the bar and yelled at them. Thinking a fight was going to start, Mommaerts stepped between the two men, and Lein swore at her.

She told police she struck Lein across the face, but Lein said Mommaerts punched him so he punched her in the jaw. Mommaerts blacked out for a little while, but she said she was able to walk out of the bar. Lein had left the scene prior to police arriving.

Schulechterman, who said he was minding his own business prior to the fight, told police that Lein allegedly punched him outside the Brass Rail a few weeks ago.

Lein told police that Schulechterman was telling people at the bar that he had beat up Lein and he confronted the couple. He said Mommaerts punched him in the eye and he hit her back. He told police he immediately regretted hitting Mommaerts and that his “instinct kicked in.” After hitting Mommaerts, several people kicked him in the ribs. Police noted that Lein had a black eye.

Police went back to Mommaerts’ house and explained that if she wanted to press charges against Lein, that they would pursue charges against her. Mommaerts dropped the charges. Police told both parties to avoid each other.
