Village Board To Discuss Potential Water And Sewer Study

With an estimated cost of $125 million, the Village Board is at the proverbial fork in the road on whether development should take place along the Interstate.

The Village Board will consider paying $20,000 for a study that would map out alternatives for putting water and sewer lines in along the Interstate.

The meeting will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, June 9 at the Caledonia Police Department, 6900 Nicholson Rd., in the Village Courtroom.

Tom Lebak, the village administrator, said the board would discuss the scope and size of a study they may want Ehlers & Associates to do.

At a Joint Village Board meeting held in March, Dave Wagner, of Ehlers & Associates, told the Board that putting in water and sewer would cost $125 million between four different phases. Any phase wouldn’t start for at least two years. Wagner told the board the project would potentially at .50 to $1 per $1,000 of assessed value to the tax roll.

The question is whether enough revenue would be created by future development.

“We’re really looking at the question of growth versus no growth and we’re looking at the scope and size of these projects because they will cost money,” Lebak said.

The study would likely layout the financial impact of the project including property valuations.

“This will help the Board make decisions,” Lebak said. “Do we move forward with the project or walk away.”
