What Will Your Village Board Be Discussing Tonight?

A brief look at the issues the Village Board will discuss at their meeting.

The Village Board will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 19 at the East Side Community Center, 6156 Douglas Ave.

Here are several key topics on the agenda:

  • Update on EMS billing hardship policy: The Caledonia Fire Department will be asking the Village to include ambulance billing to their hardship policy list. Chief Dick Roeder said in a Committee meeting that he was looking for direction when people couldn't pay their ambulance bills.
  • Service Agreement/Bus Service: The Finance Committee asked officials with the Racine Bus System to come back with ridership numbers. The Village pays about $30,000 for the service, which represents about 2 percent of the total cost, said officials.
  • Possible action addressing Memorandum of Understanding for future STH 38 from 6 Mile Road to Oakwood Road: The state plans to go out for bid for the design of this 9-mile reconstruction and expansion project, which is slated to be constructed in 2016. At the Public Works Committee, village officials said they want the DOT to go ahead with Hwy 38 from 6 Mile Road to Oakwood Road. However, there's another southern section that they want to have more discussions with the DOT on. The current estimated project cost is $125 million.

  • Discussion of 4 Mile Road UPRR Railroad Crossing Agreement: The underpass project has been in the works for quite some time and the Village Board has been anxious to have it started because of the chance for higher costs. To learn more, e.
  • Discussion of existing well permitting policy and DNR regulations for wells on properties served by public water: Board member Jerry Griswold will ask for the board's support to change state regulations. To learn more, .
  • Approval of new Class B Combo license/SBN Investments LLC/Randy Kressing/5844 Douglas: A new bar/restaurant is coming to town and Village Board members will consider giving the owner of the building, Ronnie Zold, a liquor license. To learn more, .
  • Charter Ordinance 2011-001 – Reading and possible adoption -A Charter Ordinance to amend Section 2-5-9(b) of the Code of Ordinances for the Village of Caledonia, Racine County, Wisconsin relating to the compensation of the Caledonia Storm Sewer Utility District Commission: The Village Board will consider making the Storm Sewer Utility District Commission positions unpaid.
