Woman Charged With Child Abuse in Caledonia

Victim, 11, tells police his mom hit him with a stick during a recent incident and sometimes hits him with a rolling pin.

A 43-year-old Caledonia woman is facing child abuse charges after she allegedly beat her 11-year-old son with a stick.

According to the criminal complaint, Caledonia police officers were called to a residence in the 5000 block of Douglas Avenue recently after the incident was reported. The boy told officers he came home late, so his mom, who isn’t being named by Patch in order to protect the identity of the victim, began to beat him with a stick, causing a welt on his left wrist.

The boy told officers the stick is about one foot long and one inch thick. He said his mom also hits him with a rolling pin when he does something bad and sometimes threatens him with a knife.

The woman and her husband first told officers the boy slipped and fell on the sidewalk, then said the suspect hit him four or five times using her hand. Both denied using objects to strike the victim. Police noted that the boy's injuries weren't consistent with their stories, according to the criminal complaint.

The woman is charged with one count of physical abuse of a child and faces up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines if convicted. She will make her initial appearance in Racine County Circuit Court Oct. 26.
