About 20 Percent Of Caledonia Voters Have Alreaady Cast Their Ballot

Karie Torkilsen, the village clerk, expects that 1/4 of the residents in Caledonia will have already voted by tomorrow. Still she's bracing for the highest turnout on Tuesday -- 110 percent.

A steady stream of people have continued to make their way to the Caledonia Safety Building to do early in person absentee voting, which started on Oct. 22 and ends Friday.

With both parties pushing voters to cast their absentee ballots early, they see that getting those ballots in early gives their respective parties an advantage and voters are listening.

Karie Torkilsen, the village clerk, said she's anticipating that up to 25 percent of all registered voters will have already cast their ballot by Friday, the last day for early in person absentee voting.

"I'm really happy with how things are going," Torkilsen said. "I think we've got a good system in place."

In June, just over 80 percent of the 17,460 registered voters came to the polls and voted in the recall election.

Preparations have also been finalized for Election Day on Tuesday. Torkilsen ordered over 19,000 ballots, just in case they had more people come to register on Tuesday. They will also have 21 poll workers at each election site; typically, they only have 12 to 15.

“I think more people will be voting in this election and we’re ready,” Torkilsen said.
