Caledonia Will Ask Racine County To Establsh I-794 Study Committee

Similar requests being made by Mt. Pleasant and the City of Racine.

Caledonia, WI - Village officials are preparing a resolution asking the Racine County Board to establish a study committee for extending Interstate 794 southward into Racine County.

“This is a step to get this study under way,” said Kevin Wanggaard, a Village Trustee and Chairman for the Legislative and Licensing Committee.

The study, which would be spearheaded by the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission, needs Racine County’s involvement. Wanggaard added that similar resolutions urging the County to start the study would also be sought from the Village of Mount Pleasant and the City of Racine.

Language for the Caledonia resolution is being taken from similar resolutions prepared by Oak Creek and Cudahy in Milwaukee. Planning has already started to extend I-794 (also known as the Lake Park Expressway) south from Pennsylvania Avenue in St. Francis to Ryan Road in Oak Creek.

Caledonia Village Administrator Tom Lebak and Village Trustee Tom Weatherston will work on the resolution, which may be brought to Village Board on June 7.
