Envirotest Wisconsin Closing In Racine

Layoffs will begin in July for 50 to 100 employees after company loses state contract for emissions testing.

Between 50 and 100 people will find themselves out of work when Envirotest Wisconsin closes and lays off its entire workforce, including those in Racine.

Envirotest Wisconsin is the company that conducts vehicle inspections for the Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles and recently lost its state contract to provide emissions testing.

The Department of Workforce Development received the layoff notice from Envirotest on Wednesday. Other locations shutting down include Milwaukee, Oak Creek, West Bend, West Allis, Racine, Kenosha and West Allis.

Employees will begin leaving the company July 1 and will receive three weeks severance pay, according to the notice.

β€œDWD and its regional workforce partner will work with the employer to provide Rapid Response Services to employees,” states a news release from the Department of Workforce Development.
