Follow the Money: Who Funds Caledonia's State Legislators?

Caledonia’s state senator and representative are in their respective top 10 lists for campaign contributions, according to MAPLight.org. MAPLight.org compiles information on financial contributions to politicians.

To learn more about where that money came from, read on. Information in the Top 10 lists for the candidates, outlined below, does not include contributions from political parties or other candidates. 

Sen. Van Wanggaard, R-Racine, received $235,705 toward his political campaigns from Jan. 1, 2007 and Dec. 31, 2010. He received more than $20,000 from contributors the website placed in the miscellaneous manufacturing and distributing interest group. Contributors in the commercial banking, lawyers/law firms and health professionals interest groups each gave between $11,500 and $13,009 to his campaigns.

His top individual contributors were Walmart Stores and Waukesha State Bank. Each gave him $4,000.

Rep. Robin Vos, R-Rochester, received $96,525 toward his political campaigns from Jan. 1, 2009-Dec. 31, 2010. The top contributing interest group was health professionals, which gave $16,650 to Vos’s campaigns. Insurance and miscellaneous manufacturing and distributing interest groups gave him $6,775 and $6,500 respectively.

His top individual contributors were Dentist, which gave $4,750, and Sentry Insurance, which gave $2,000.
