Informational Meeting On Highway 32 Project Set

Got questions and concerns about the Highway 32 project?

A public information meeting about the upcoming reconstruction of WIS 32 from about 1,000 feet south of 5 Mile Road to ½ mile north of WIS 31 will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 1 at the Caledonia East Community Center, 6156 Douglas Ave.

The meeting will feature maps and other materials describing the project, which will be on display and Wisconsin Department of Transportation representatives will be available to discuss the project on an individual basis.

According to the WisDOT, the project will seek to increase the safety and capacity of WIS 32 in the village of .  WisDOT is prepared to achieve these goals by reconstructing the highway with modern safety design standards.  Construction activities are anticipated to start in 2017 or 2018, with right-of-way acquisition taking place between late 2012 and 2014.

The public is encouraged to attend the meeting with any questions or concerns that may assist in the development of this project.  If you have any questions regarding this project or public meeting, please contact either Jeff Knudson, with Crispell-Snyder, Inc., at (608) 244-6277 or knudsonj@crispell-snyder.com, or me at (608) 246‑3821 or david.layton@dot.wi.gov.

Love roundabouts! Efficient and quick. I learned how to navigate them in the 60's on the campus of Michigan State.

We will be there. This is a huge deal for us.

Scott -- what are some of your concerns?

Unfortunately there still are WAY too many drivers that don't know how to navigate them. I travel through the one at K and 38 daily and at least once a week I will see somebody STOP in the circle for a car entering the circle from the right! Also, the yield signs don't mean stop when there is no traffic approaching.

The state keeps pushing this project back, a while ago it was to start around 2015. The problem-more than 25 percent of Racine Counties TOTAL population lives along the lake in 53402 and 53404. There isn't one four lane highway west out to I-94, nor are there any 4 lane highways between Racine and Milwaukee in this corridor. There is no business growth in this area-no surprise why. 32 should be 4 lanes up to Hwy 100. The state is ignoring the nearly 20,000 traffic count on 32 just south of Hwy 100. 32 is already 4 lanes between Racine and Kenosha with traffic counts of only 6,000-10,000.
