Land Use Plan Management Committee To Start Meeting Tuesday

Village President names members.

Ron Coutts, the Village President, named seven people to a newly formed Committee that will look at revising the village land use plan.

Coutts announced the names of the Committee members Tuesday at the Village Board meeting.

The Land Use Plan Management Team includes: Elizabeth Kocjan, Community Development Authority member; Bill Folk, Planning Commission member; Tom Weatherston, Village Board member; Mike Hayek, village engineer; Tom Lebak, village administrator; Elaine Ekes, village attorney; and Julie Anderson, zoning administrator.

The group will look at a variety of elements included in the Village land use plan, which considers everything from zoning to transportation to housing. The document helps to guide planning decisions and it became an issue when WalMart proposed preliminary plans to build an 115,000 square foot building on the corner of Highway 31 and Four Mile Road. The Walmart store would occupy 40,000 square feet of that space. However, no plans have been presented to the village.

In May, Tom Lebak, the village administrator, said that in order to move forward with any kind of commercial development, in this case Walmart, the would need to be changed.

However, the Village Board voted to look at a number of , which is why they are looking to revise the land use plan.

The Committee will meet for the first time at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 14 at the Village Hall, 6922 Nicholsen Road.
