Local Firefighters Participate in Madison Rally Protesting Walker's Budget Repair Bill

Local firefighter says the mood is upbeat and supportive.

Becky LaPoint, a Caledonia Firefighter, is in Madison today at a rally where thousands of union members have gathered.

Here's what she said in an email:

There are four of us here from the CFD & to put it lightly this place is an absolute mad house!  This is the busiest & loudest of my four days here! Todays firefighter turnout (no pun) ;) has been the highest yet! Union support has been very  respectful! So wonderfully empowering! Lots of chants "this is what democracy looks like" with multiple drummers throughout the rotunda and Capitol building. We have been on a 45+ minute lap inside up & down all the stair wells!

Every union listed (nurses, firefighters, police, highway workers and teachers) plus more Harley was here, so many I honestly couldn't tell you all of them. During the marching I actually didn't talk to any of them other than thanking them and "solidarity" everyone is so emotional, happy, crying, hugging high-fiving us & just loving us for being here to support the union fights! Right now we have marched down to a bar on the main strip to chat & "talk shop" with the many other depts! Racine, Waukesha, Green Bay, Oshkosh, Madison, Kenosha, I'm pretty sure most of the unions are represented here today!

There are even, Milwaukee FF's here, not many but they are still here! Wow! This is what a "brotherhood" is about!
