Recounting The Recall: State Election Officials To Issue Order Monday

Sen. Van Wanggaard lost his seat to now Senator-elect John Lehman in the recall election on June 5. Now, Wanggaard, who lost by 834 votes, is asking for a recount.

The recount of votes for the recall election for the 21st Senate race between Van Wanggaard and Senator-elect John Lehman will happen Wednesday, according to state officials.

Wanggaard, on June 5, filed a petition Friday with the Government Accountability Board .

The GAB is set to issue an order to Racine County election officials on Monday.

Wanggaard lost to Lehman on June 5 by 834 votes β€” with Lehman receiving 36,351 votes and Wanggaard getting 35,517 votes. The county's.

The GAB issued a press release stating that the Board of Canvassers has 13 days to recount the vote totals and submit their results to state officials.

Because that date lands on Sunday, July 1, the deadline to finish the recount is July 2. However, the outcome of the recount may be appealed in a circuit court within five days. If no one files an appeal, the Board will certify the results after the appeal deadline.
