New A&W Site Plan Headed to Trustees

A & W faithful will still be able to get a frosty mug of their favorite frothy beverage because the restaurant is moving to the east side of I-94.

Widening I-94 is prompting a move east for the A&W Restaurant, on the west side of the expressway at Highway K.

Owners Sharon and Frank Welch want to start building a new restaurant at the corner of Northwestern Avenue (Highway K) and the East Frontage Road, just across the expressway.

Their site plan was presented to the village Plan Commission last week and was unanimously approved. Trustees will take the matter under consideration at the Jan. 21 Village Board meeting.

Access is expected to come off of the frontage road because of WisDOT rules about access off Highway K.

Root beer and burger lovers - cheese curds, too - will find the new restaurant just east of the Pilot gas station/truck stop. A new road will be constructed to divide the two properties.

The Welch's opened A&W in 1974 and continue to make their own root beer on-site.
