Village Board to Take Up Utility District Boundary Issue

Board will discuss options after a number of residents voiced opposition to being charged for sewer and water services they don't use.

The Village Board will discuss the boundaries for the Caledonia Utility District, an issue that has outraged a number of residents.

Residents from the Old Field Settlement subdivision, Highway V and Bell Road are angry because they are being billed for water and sewer services they aren't using. The group made the argument to the board last month that they will never use the service because they are on private mound and well systems, and not hooked up the village's water and sewer system. Residents are being charged between $400 and $700 for the service on their tax bills.

Earlier this month about 75 resident came to the Caledonia Utility District meeting to ask that the boundaries be changed. However, the Utility District voted to keep the boundaries as is. Despite the recommendation, several Village Board members told the residents they would revisit the issue.
