UPDATE: What's Next For Old Western Publishing Building?

Even though the building is boarded up, area youth still get inside the building and vandalize it.

UPDATE: The Village Board talked about dissolving the TIF district at a Village Board Meeting Dec. 6, 2011, but the decided against it for now. Barbara Sorenson, the real estate agent who has the property listed, told the board that one of the owners of the building went bankrupt and they are currently in court proceedings. Daniel Hintz, Dr. Thomas Wood, and Joseph Borzynski own the property. According to court records, the matter is set to go to trial on June 29 2012.

Sorenson told the Village Board she gets at least two to three phone calls a week about the property and knows she won't be able to sell the property unless the TIF allows to stay with the property. One of the buyers is interested in using the building as a charter school, but the potential buyer is waiting for some legislation to go through before they commit to buying the property, she said.

ORIGINAL STORY: The old Western Publishing building located at 5945 Erie Street was supposed to be knocked down and developed into high-end condominiums, but the $14.1 million project never got off the ground.
