Racine Raiders Pitch Second Straight Shutout

The Racine Raiders, after nearly giving away a game to an undermanned Lake Geneva Generals team three weeks ago, have hit their stride. Following a 73-0 blowout of the Milwaukee Venom last week, the Raiders pitched another shutout Saturday in Monona, Wis., 72-0 over the Monona Warriors.

The Raiders defense intercepted six passes, including an 80-yard return for a touchdown by Torie Ruffin in the fourth quarter, and recovered two fumbles. They held the Warriors to under 200 total yards of offense and recorded five sacks in the game.

Meanwhile, the offense racked up nearly 600 yards, including over 300 yards on the ground. Quarterback Craig McClelland threw for 287 yards and five touchdowns. Rookie running back Ivry Lashley ran for 58 yards and two touchdowns. J.R. Taylor rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown. Rookie wide receiver Dom Kegel led all receivers with 6 catches for 121 yards and a touchdown.

The Raiders extended their winning streak to 21 games, the third longest winning streak in team history.

The Raiders return home to finish out the regular season with three games over the next four weeks. The Raiders host the Wauwatosa Spartans on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at Historic Horlick Athletic Field. The Spartans are 2-1 in the Northwest Division, 4-1 in the Mid-States Football League (MSFL)Β and 4-2 overall. They have won three straight games since losing their MSFL opener to the Racine Threat.

Saturday night is Alumni Night as well as Mascot Night II, featuring mascots from local businesses and teams like Roscoe from the Milwaukee Admirals, the Chick-Fil-A Cow, Ranger Bear from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
