Racine County Welcomes National High School Girls Rugby Championships This Weekend

National championship girls high school rugby is coming to Racine this weekend. See the action at the SCORe complex in Franksville.

National championship girls high school rugby is coming to Racine County!


The top 19 girls high school rugby teams from around the country will compete at the SCORe Soccer Complex, 9509 Dunkelow Rd., Franksville, Saturday and Sunday, May 18-19 for the 2013 Girls National High School Rugby Championships.


The three-division tournament will feature back-to-back national champion Fallbrook High School from San Diego, Calif., as well as perennial powerhouses, the Kent (Washington) Crusaders, the Summit High School Tigers from Summit County, Colo., and the Amazons from Sacramento, Calif.

Locally, Wisconsin, which boasts two of the nation’s top 10 ranked teams in the country according to April 30 RugbyMag.com rankings, in Divine Savior Holy Angels High School, Milwaukee, (3) and Catholic Memorial, Waukesha, (7), are tournament hosts. DSHA, crowned the 2013 Midwest Champion in April in Elkhart, Ind., is looking for its seventh national title since 2004, and Catholic Memorial, second at Midwest in Elkhart, will battle for its first title.


The remainder of the field includes teams from Minnesota, Utah, Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania and Maryland.

Play begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The championship will be played at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
